MD LASERS – IPL & E-LIGHT THERAPY

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and E-Light Therapy are non-invasive treatments used to address a variety of skin concerns, including pigmentation, sun damage, redness, vascular lesions (like broken capillaries), and uneven skin tone. Treatments typically start from 1- 4 session depending on the concern and skin type.

How It Works

IPL and E-Light work by delivering broad-spectrum light energy that targets specific chromophores in the skin—melanin for pigmentation and hemoglobin for vascular issues. The absorbed light is converted into heat, which safely breaks down unwanted pigmentation or blood vessels without harming surrounding tissue.

E-Light combines IPL with radiofrequency (RF) energy. This combination allows deeper penetration and improved results, especially for clients with lighter pigmentation or more stubborn vascular concerns. The RF component also heats the dermis, stimulating collagen production and tightening the skin.

Skin Rejuvenation & Healing Response

While IPL and E-Light are not fractional laser treatments, they do stimulate the skin’s natural healing response. As a result of controlled thermal damage, the skin produces new collagen and elastin over time. This leads to smoother skin texture, more even skin tone, and a reduction in fine lines and pigmentation irregularities.

Benefits of IPL & E-Light Therapy

1. Minimally Invasive & No Downtime

IPL and E-Light are non-ablative, meaning the surface of the skin remains intact. Most clients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment, making them ideal for busy lifestyles.

2. Versatile Treatment for Multiple Concerns

These technologies can treat pigmentation, rosacea, broken capillaries, acne scarring, fine lines, and enlarged pores, making them highly versatile and effective for overall skin rejuvenation.

3. Enhanced Collagen Production

Over a series of treatments, IPL and E-Light promote firmer, plumper skin through increased collagen and elastin synthesis—reducing signs of ageing and improving skin texture.

4. Precision & Safety

The devices used at MD Lasers feature advanced filters and skin-cooling systems, ensuring light energy is delivered precisely and safely, with minimal discomfort and reduced risk of side effects.

Common Immediate Effects:

  1. Redness and mild swelling (like a sunburn sensation) — usually fades within a few hours to 1–2 days.

  2. Darkening of pigment spots — sunspots, freckles, and melasma may appear darker before flaking off over the next 3–7 days.

  3. Mild warmth or tingling in the treated area.

  4. Sensitivity to touch and increased skin sensitivity to sun exposure.

  5. Temporary dryness or tightness in the skin.

When to be cautious:

  • Blistering, crusting, or severe swelling are uncommon and may suggest over-treatment or incorrect settings.

  • Hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation may develop if post-care isn’t followed properly, especially in darker skin tones or with sun exposure.

Aftercare

DAILY:

1.Cover the treated area with SPF 50 PA++++ sunscreen .

2.Avoid sun exposure to treated areas.

3.Follow your prescribed homecare routine as advised by your treatment provider. Use a moisturising facial mask daily for

1-2 weeks to hydrate your skin.

FOR THE FIRST 24 HOURS POST-TREATMENT:

1.The treated area must not be exposed to UVR for at least 7 days, even in enclosed places.

2.If possible, do not apply a cold compress or ice to the skin, as this will affect the normal wound-healing process.

3.Avoid makeup application.

4.If possible, avoid taking ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatories for 24-48 hours post-treatment.

UP TO 5 DAYS POST-TREATMENT:

1.Avoid the use of scented lotions or soaps. A gentle, hydrating cleanser is recommended.

2.Your skin becomes sensitive after IPL treatment. Therefore, it's best to avoid skincare products containing active

ingredients like retinol and vitamin C. Focus on soothing and moisturising your skin to aid recovery.

3.A gentle skincare routine is recommended during this time. Your treatment therapist will recommend suitable skincare to

protect and hydrate the skin.

UP TO 1 WEEK POST-TREATMENT:

Do not wax or exfoliate the skin for up to one week after treatment. Waxing or exfoliation can exacerbate skin irritation

and inflammation. Prioritise gentle skincare to support the healing process.

Avoid exercise and activities that increase perspiration and body temperature.

Avoid using pools, spas, saunas, and extremely hot showers. Do not use hot water to shower or wash your face.

UP TO 2 WEEKS POST-TREATMENT:

We recommend avoiding any treatments other than HydraFacial, especially those involving acidic products.

UP TO 1 MONTH POST-TREATMENT:

Only use mild exfoliants such as AHAs, BHAs, and granular scrubs no more than x1 every 1-2 weeks.

Avoid in-clinic exfoliating and rejuvenating treatments. Check with your treatment provider before proceeding with your

next treatment.

Avoid fillers or muscle relaxants on the treated areas for four weeks.

Avoid the use of prescription-strength exfoliant creams (prescriptive vitamin A).

Incorporate collagen-boosting foods and supplements into your diet to enhance results.
